West Lancashire Investment Centre is proving once again to be a great place for business as a national company relocates an important part of its operations there. Specsavers has taken two large suites at the centre in Skelmersdale for its 28-strong team of professional recruitment staff.
Specsavers is a partnership of almost 2,000 locally-run businesses throughout the UK and many European countries as well as Australia and New Zealand.
The businesses are all committed to delivering optical and hearing care in their local communities and more than 28 million customers used Specsavers in 2013. The professional recruitment team is the single point of contact for professional and retail staff wishing to join Specsavers.
The team aims to find new partners for store openings and works with educational facilities and partners to make sure new recruits sign up to work in the optical services arena. Welcoming Specsavers is the latest success story for the West Lancashire Borough Council-run Investment Centre.
In 2013 seven new tenants moved in and now, with Specsavers’ arrival, the centre is almost full.
Councillor Andrew Fowler, portfolio holder for Regeneration, said: “I would like to welcome Specsavers to the Investment Centre and I hope this is a start of a long and happy relationship between the council and the company.
"It is fantastic news for the Investment Centre that a national company has chosen to base an important team here and it’s a tribute to the Council staff who work there and the services provided.
“We also understand that the first phase of the neighbouring office development at White Moss Business Park is now fully let, which is further proof that this part of Skelmersdale is a great place to do business.”
Hugo Lord, Specsavers' property director, said: “Our professional recruitment team is continuing to develop and expand its operations to keep pace of the increasing staffing requirements of Specsavers.
"With the 28-strong team having outgrown its current offices we wanted to seek a new premises which could be tailored to meet its future needs. The unit available in the Investment Centre proved a great opportunity for us.
“It also presented the added convenience of being located just across the road from the existing office, making the transition for staff as simple as possible. Having taken on the lease we are undertaking a five-week refit, with the team expected to move in and be operational from the new office by the end of September.”
Director of professional recruitment Chris Howarth, who heads up the team moving into the centre, added: “We wanted to maintain the geographical advantage of this location. The accessibility of being on the M58 and close to Manchester and Liverpool airports is very beneficial to the nature of our department's work.
“The new premises have a number of benefits for staff and visitors including a hosted reception area, 24-hour security on-site and expansive car parking. It also has a well-catered canteen which is a big attraction.
"The team are really enthusiastic about moving in as we are so cramped and scrambling for space to work where we are. I arrived late today and someone was already working from my desk, so to have a bit more breathing space will be great.”
